Blind Eyes Like Dead Butterflies by Benjamin Imamovic

I wrote this short piece in May, 2010. It is very experimental for me, and not the sort of writing that I would attempt today. Looking back, re-reading the piece, I feel like I’ve managed to capture a certain atmosphere, which I am pleased about.

For a period of two years or so I experimented heavily with poetry. On most days, I would end up with a poem that I would often share online with other writers. Though I now consider these exercises failures in developing my poetic side (I have realised poetry is not my forte) it did teach me lessons that I have tried to incorporate in my short stories, especially those of imagery and rhythm. Both, to me, are extremely important. The way words sound when spoken plays a large part in how I construct my writing.
